Emberwake is an American melodic metalcore and post-hardcore band formed in February 2022 in Fernley, Nevada. The band is known for blending aggressive energy with strong melodic composition and emotionally charged songwriting. [citation needed]
History [edit]
Formation (2022)
Emberwake was founded in February 2022 by guitarist Jeremy Tinnes, keyboardist/synthesist Joshua Melvin, drummer Sean Terry, vocalist Steven Arm, vocalist Zion Ferrie, bassist Austin Haynes, and guitarist RJ Bellman. The band quickly built a reputation for both their intense live presence and their ability to craft songs that "hit hard while staying musically rich."[1]
Early Days (2022-2023)
The band faced early challenges, including the loss of founding guitarist RJ Bellman in September 2022, just before their debut performance. His contributions to the band's early sound continue to influence their music.[2] Emberwake chose to honor their commitment to their first show at Cargo Concert Hall on October 1st, 2022.
Their debut single, "Misery", released shortly before their first show, exceeded expectations and gained local notoriety in the Nevada metal scene. Choosing to focus on a singles-only strategy[citation needed], Emberwake has continued to release each track as a standalone work with its own marketing, artwork, and identity.
Early in their career, Emberwake's branding featured hooded robe figures and a monster-themed storyline, creating a dark, symbolic lore around their releases. While the future of this concept remains undecided, it remains a memorable chapter in their identity.
Lineup Changes (2024)
The band has undergone significant lineup changes throughout 2024. Zion Ferrie and Sean Terry stepped down for personal reasons. In late 2024, Steven Arm left the band after a serious injury that led to the amputation of his left foot.[3] Austin Haynes stepped down shortly after the release of "Anhedonia" in early 2025.
They were succeeded by vocalist Jaykub Stark, drummer Mike Nelms, and bassist Nik Tillman. Following Nelms' arrival, Emberwake relocated their base of operations to Reno, Nevada, positioning themselves closer to the region's music scene while continuing to build their presence across the West Coast.
Current Era (2025)
Through challenges and change, founding members Jeremy Tinnes and Joshua Melvin remain the driving force behind Emberwake's vision โ to create music that resonates deeply, blends heaviness with melody, and leaves a lasting mark on every listener. With more singles and videos in the works, Emberwake continues to evolve, committed to riding until "the wheels fall off."[4]
Musical style and influences [edit]
Emberwake's sound is characterized by the fusion of melodic metalcore and post-hardcore elements, combining crushing breakdowns with emotionally resonant melodic passages. The band's use of synthesizers and keyboards, courtesy of Joshua Melvin, adds atmospheric depth to their heavy foundation. [citation needed]
